Las Vegas Baby!!! Dec. 6-10, 2009

Three Amigos from the "Adventure Photography and Photo Walks" from Vero Beach, Florida took off for 5 days and 4 nights to "Photograph the Lights" and the "Valley of Fire" in Las Vegas, Nevada

“This was the best trip ever !!!!! We had a wonderful time and realized that we have to go back more than once because there is almost a endless supply of photo opportunities. I have never taken so many pictures. This should be an annual event and I can't wait to go back. Thank you Scott and Bruce for being such great adventurers, good sports and and inspiring photographers to travel with.” - Nancy True

“This was by far the best event I have participated in yet. We had a great time each and every day. We could have stayed there another week and still not have photographrd everything we wanted to. The neon lights and the natural wonders outside of Las Vegas provided an endless supply of photographic opportunities. I look forward to going back next year. Thanks to Scott and Nancy for being great travel partners. My suggestion for others next time "Don't miss it!"
- Bruce Weissman

“This photographic trip was fantastic!! I had a blast and there was no end of places to photograph. Bruce and Nancy were great to travel with and we had allot of laughs!! I will look into making this an annual event for I have to go back and photograph some of the places that we didn't have time to get to. I believe by having others to photograph with we inspired each other to do more than we would have by ourselves. Also, I would have been lost with out the PMS Nagavator ;-D ” - J. Scott Kelly

OLD FLORIDA - Pocahontas Building

History of Pocahontas Building

In Vero Beach during the first decade of the 1900's there was a tradition of naming buildings after Native Americans. The Pocahontas Arcade, built in 1923 by Blackford and Davis originally contained nine offices and a wrap around loggia. In 1926 a second story addition of 23 apartments was constructed. On the parapet, artist A.A. Thomas sculpted the life-size image of the Indian girl, Pocahontas.

The Pocahontas Building was renovated in 2002 and 2003 by the Haggerty Family.

Full Harvest Moon 2009

Full Harvest Moon October 4, 2009

About 21 photographers attended this full moon shoot.
Here's what a few had to say:
“ There was quite a crowd and as a result we drew another crowd of curious onlookers. Unfortunately the horizon was blocked with clouds so we didn't see the moon until it was several degrees into the sky, but it was huge and a very interesting color. ” - Carolyn Shafer
“ It's a great group. Each time I go, I met someone new, or get to know someone better and I learn something. That's what it's all about isn't it? ” - Peter H. Connelly

"What a gorgeous night to be taking pictures.” - Linda Leonard

Harvest Moon Celebration

In China and throughout many Asian countries people celebrate the Harvest Moon on the 15th day of the eighth month of their lunar calendar. The date in the Western calendar changes yearly. This year, it falls on Saturday, October 3, 2009.

The Harvest Moon or Mid-Autumn Festival (Zhong Qiu Jie) is a day of family reunions much like a Western Thanksgiving. Chinese people believe that on that day, the moon is the roundest and brightest signaling a time of completeness and abundance. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, children are delighted to stay up past midnight, parading multi-colored lanterns into the wee hours as families take to the streets to moon-gaze.

It is also a romantic night for lovers, who sit holding hands on hilltops, riverbanks and park benches, captivated by the brightest moon of the year!
The festival dates back to the Tang dynasty in 618 A.D., and as with many celebrations in China there are ancient legends closely associated with it.

In Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore, it's sometimes referred to as the Lantern Festival, (not to be confused with a similar celebration during the Chinese New Year), but whatever name it goes by, the centuries-old festival remains a beloved annual ritual celebrating an abundance of food and family.
