Adventure Photography & Photo Walk Group Hosts FCCC Statewide Photography Print Competition

The Adventure Photography & Photo Walk group was honored to have been selected by the Florida Camera Club Council to judge the Second Tri-Annual Statewide Photographic Print Competition held on June 24th. Nine affiliated camera clubs from around the state submitted a total of 127 color and monochrome photographic prints for judging.

As organizer of the Adventure Photography & Photo Walk group Scott hand-picked two highly respected colleagues to join him in judging the competition.  Chosen to assist Scott with the judging were:  Dick Robertson of Vero Beach, a retired professional photographer with 40 years of professional and judging experience, and Ron Rosenzweig, a 20 year veteran professional photographer from Stuart.

The evening of judging went well with each print being viewed separately in a specially designed light box and the voting being done through sophisticated scoring machines provided by the FCCC.  A special thank you to our volunteers - Janice Reynolds, Nancy True, Kaila Kelly and Karen Kelly, who worked hard to keep things organized and running smoothly.

The top image in the monochrome (black & white) division, receiving 27 points out of a possible 27, was “Winding Road” by Don Tupis of the Spring Hill Camera Club located in Spring Hill, Florida. The next top winners in the monochrome division were: “Potters Hands” by Bob Cameron of the Sarasota Camera Club;  “Lone Chair” by Georgia Robinson of the Chasco Camera Club in New Port Richey; and “Tropical Trees” by Carol MacDougall of the Photo Adventures Camera Club in North Port, Florida.  In the color division, there were three images who tied for first place.  These winning images were “Celby Mansion Potscape” by Bob Cameron, “Bees at Westmore Park” by Laura Bryg, both from the Sarasota Camera Club, and “Taking a Big Step” by Nancy Lester of the Spring Hill Camera Club.   Based on the points, the top 10% will receive blue ribbon awards and the next 15% will receive yellow ribbon honors.

Monday we ventured down to the Intercoastal Waterway to photograph the skyline of West Palm Beach, Florida.  We had a GREAT TIME and the weather was good although, getting hot already in Florida for June and the bugs decided to come along for the shoot also!!

Friday evening Adventure Photography and Photo Walk enthusiasts descended upon COCOA VILLAGE to capture the eclectic visions on the streets.

Calling On Local Photographers To Partake In Worldwide Photo Walk

On Saturday, July 24th, 2010, the whole world will be walking again with Scott Kelby, president of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) and #1 bestselling computer and technology book author, in the Third Annual Worldwide Photo Walk™. Last year over 32,000 amateur and professional photographers in 900 cities all around the world participated in the Second Annual Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk. Once again, chosen to lead the Photo Walk in Vero Beach is professional photographer J. Scott Kelly, owner of Island Images Professional Photography Studio, Inc., founder of Adventure Photography and Photo Walks of Vero Beach.

There is no fee to participate but pre-registration is required. Just go to the Worldwide Photo Walk Vero Beach, and join in on the fun. Anyone can participate too. All you need is a camera. It doesn’t even matter what kind of camera either. People have showed up with disposables in the past, had a blast, and left with a new appreciation for photography.

Kelby credits the success and popularity of the event to the social aspect of photography the world over. “Photography is usually viewed as a solitary activity, but the truth of the matter is that people love to shoot together, compare notes and just have fun with photography,” said Kelby. “The Worldwide Photo Walk is a social phenomenon. I’ve had group leaders contact me to tell me that they’ve turned their walk into a monthly event. Other people tell me that they’ve made friends at the very first Photo Walk that they’ve kept to this day. It’s the joy of shooting with friends, new and old that makes this event so special.”

In addition to enjoying a day of photography with other like-minded individuals, participants may also be eligible to win prizes from the Worldwide Photo Walk’s sponsors if their photo is chosen as the best photo of the day by their walk leader. Each winning walk photo is then entered into a global competition where Scott Kelby picks the single “best photo” of the event along with 10 runners-up. This was our second outing there in the past couple of years.  We got some different shots this time as we also went to the other side to photograph the marina area,  it was also fun to see the newer members tackle the "NIGHT LIGHTS"

Adventure Photography Group Members Win in State Competition

TWO BLUE RIBBONS!!

FIVE YELLOW RIBBONS!!!!!

The statewide Florida Camera Club Council recently held its Tri-Annual FCCC Digital Photo Competition, which is open to photographers who are members of affiliated photography clubs and groups throughout Florida.

Members of Adventure Photography and Photo Walks, a Vero Beach based photography group, had their first opportunity to participate in this competition since becoming an FCCC affiliate a few months ago and are off to a great start. Five out of the six members who participated won ribbons for their outstanding images.

Susan Pantuso won top honors in both the Beginner Amateur Color Division with “Awakening” and in the Beginner Amateur Mono (B&W) Division with “Mystique,” each receiving a blue ribbon. Winning yellow ribbons in the Beginner Amateur Color Division were Bruce Weissman with “Mystery Visitor” and Janice Reynolds with “Contemplation.” Dawn Currie received a yellow ribbon for “Mighty Helo” in the Beginner Amateur Mono (B&W) Division. In the Professional/Advanced Amateur Color Category, Nancy True won yellow ribbons for two of her images “Valley of Fire” and “Forever Florida.”

The Adventure Photography and Photo Walk group’s organizer, professional photographer J. Scott Kelly, said “We have so much fun getting together to create these images. I am thrilled that our members’ received the recognition they deserve for their exceptional work.”
